Description
Baking powder is a leavening agent commonly used in baking to help cakes, muffins, pancakes, and other baked goods rise. It consists of a combination of an acid (usually cream of tartar) and a base (usually baking soda), along with a starch (to prevent them from reacting prematurely). When combined with moisture and heat, baking powder releases carbon dioxide gas, which causes the batter or dough to rise and become light and fluffy.
